I'll be in Stockholm (Sweden) Saturday, 21 July which is my partner's birthday.

Would love to have a memorable meal for that occasion.

I would just as soon it NOT be at a seafood-oriented place (not interested in game or reindeer, either!)

Price? Not really an issue but I'm one of those "rich" people who actually appreciates value for money.

Any suggestions would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

Fem Små Hus is a good choice but you're not going to find restaurants in Stockholm which does not offer fish and Wild. It's part of the life in Sweden.

This place is in Gamla Stan and it's one of the most part of Stockholm.

I don't mind at all if a restaurant offers both seafood and game; I just don't want to eat in a place in which either of those are about the only thing on the menu.

Hi Dukey,
I'll have just returned from Stockholm as you are arriving. I too have been looking for special things for a birthday celebration in Stockholm. My husbands birthday is July 13. We decided to visit the ice bar as that will surely be unique. We return from our trip on the 17th of July. Will you be in Sweden by then. Otherwise I could post back with a suggestion upon my return.

Actually, on the 17th I'll be on a Baltic cruise but will undoubtedly be doing a little web surfing and checking in here.

So, by all means if you find something wonderful I'd love to hear about it.

I suspect we might stop in at the "ice bar" which i have heard a great deal about.

Most of the restaurants offer a full menu...that is other dishes along WITH the seafood or reindeer or elk.

If you eat meat, I will say my one big mistake was not having a reindeer steak. I tried a smoked reindeer appitizer and didn't like it so orderd a pork dish...it was really good by the way...and my SIL had a reindeer steak. I tasted it and if was just delicious. I wished I'd ordered it.

This restaurant was in Gamla Stan, but sadly I don't remember the name of it. I DO remember it was expensive.

Normally I do not like anything with a "gamey" taste to it so would probably not order reindeer but if it tastes as great as you say perhaps I should reconsider?

Yes, we are prepared for the cost of things in Sweden but I appreciate your pointing that aspect of things out.

The best restaurant in stockholm in my opinion is the Operakällaren (one star in Guide Michelin),which is located in one of the most beautiful buildings in Sweden - the Swedish Royal Operahouse.
It is a short stroll from the Grand Hotel. IF you want to dance after dinner pop downstars wher the music is load and the young dance the night away,

Absolutely amazing! The best bar-restaurant in Stockholm!

Yes i have been fortunate to eat there on 3 occasions and never been disapointed.
We stayed at the Grand Hotel and were able to amble back mellow, full and happy. Next day was Sunday so we had Smorkesbord in the Grand for lunch which, according to my swedish colleague is one of the best in Sweden - get there early OR book a table in the veranda overlooking the water (sorry this is for the Sunday smorkesboard).
Both are not cheap BUT you will remember the experience for a very long time.

It's been many years but I still remember our dinner at
the Operakallaran. Beautiful restaurant and the food was very good. Likewise the service... everyone spoke English flawlessly. (Once again making me feel like a linguistic slob.)
