I have seen many guidebooks recommend taking the RER from Disneyland back to Paris. However, I have not seen any address the safety issue. If my family wants to take the RER back to Paris later in the evening, aren't there stops (such as Charles De Gaulle Etoille) that are supposedly unsafe? Would we be better off taking it to Gare de Lyon and taking a taxi back to the 16th Arrondissement, or getting off at some other stop? I am assuming that the RER itself is safe to take back from Disneyland (if not, please let me know). Thanks.

I took the RER from the Eiffel tower area to Disney Paris last month. We took the metro to the RER, connected and then returned the same way. You can connect to the Metro and return to your local metro stop. I traveled alone by Metro late at night to all areas, and never felt unsafe.
Have fun!
Anyone else with insights?
In big European cities, you should always be aware of pickpockets, wherever you go, whenever. On the other hand, robbery with a gun/knife is extremely rare, especially if you're travelling as a group. So, be careful, but you don't have to avoid a station. Etoille is used by tens of thousands of people each day - locals and tourists - including in the evening.
Where are you getting the information that are "supposedly unsafe?" Is that information backed up with facts or simply hearsay?
Do what makes you feel most comfortable but my own experience with the RER late in the evening both from Disney and other points has been uneventful.
We were in Paris a few weeks ago and took the RER to Disneyland. The park closed at 8 p.m., and we went to the Disney Village to eat dinner before returning to Paris.
We got on the train at about 10 p.m., arriving in Paris around 10:35 or so. We got off at the Auber stop, and transferred on a couple Metro lines to get back to our hotel. I did not perceive there to be anything unsafe about the entire trip.
We were 4 women traveling together - I observed many single women riding the train themselves also. If you are with your family, I doubt you will have much to be concerned about.
I stayed in the 1st arr. and walked to the Opera station. It seemed that we went so far down under the city to grab the train that day. I never knew how deep it went. We took the train to Disneyland. It was very easy. Coming home we left there around 5:30 and didn't have any trouble and took it back to the Opera station.
I never had any problems on the trains late at night when coming back from being out.
Have fun, it was interesting to see the little differences at the one in France vs the one in Florida. I enjoyed going.
Thanks to all for the advice. Sounds pretty safe.
The reality is the Metro is very safe, Paris is for the most part very safe but nobody can vouch for 100% safety; nor unfortunately can anybody vouch for 100% safety in hailing a cab or even riding in a cab.
I believe the Metro and RER are fundamentally safe and would not have the slightest problem riding at any hour of the day.
Thanks to all. I e-mailed with the author of the Unofficial Guide to Paris and he agreed with what all of you have said -- no special safety concerns (although he mentioned that we might not want to hang around late at night in the Chatelet-Les Halles transportation hub).
