reputable apartment rental in Rome and Venice?

Can anyone recommend an agency with short term apartment rentals in these cities? Or even a particular apartment someone has rented? I'm looking for accommodations for our family of 5 for 3 nights in each city. Thanks for any info!

In Venice, we used venicerentals.com. They operate a little differently, in that you email them what you're looking for -- price, dates, no. of bedrooms, etc. -- and they send you a list of available apartments, including photos and particulars.

It's run by a husband/wife team. He's Italian and she's American. We were generally pleased with their service.

Sorry, haven't rented in Rome. Besides recs you get here, you can check VRBO.com. Most of the apartments there are accompanied by reviews which seem honest, in that they often point out the negatives, if there are any.

Here's one for Rome. We were in Rome over Easter and stayed at one of these apartments. The link is to the larger Casa Paradiso but we stayed at the Paradiso loft apartment located in the same building and right next door. I'm assuming the standard is similar. Our family is only four people so that's why I attached the larger two-bedroom here:

Highly recommended and great location! More information is in my trip report that you can find by clicking my username.

Here's a great apartment for 5 in Venice (3 bedrooms - configured 1 x queen; 1 x double and 1 x twin beds) - bonus on a canal. We stayed there for 2 weeks

I used this agency in Rome - they were fine - apartment was as promised (not directing you to it as it's too small for 5)

My friends and I have all used Rome Loft agency (3 different apartments on 3 separate occasions, various group sizes, all good experiences). You can book online with a credit card.

We used Airbnb in Rome. The apartment we rented isn't big enough for your family, but I believe the owners have others for rent.

We used Venice Homes & Holidays at www.hhvenice.com
Donatella was most obliging, and professional in every way.

Ours was only a 1 bed apartment, but if you let them know what you need, they can offer whatever is suitable. Di

I am currently staying in an apt rented thru Sleep in Italy. Apt is just like the photos and agency has been responsive and easy to deal with. We paid deposit via PayPal and the rest in cash at arrival.

We used SleepInItaly. Great service, good apartment.

VRBO/Homeaway was a nightmare.

Two independent landlords messed us about and did nothing to refute the Italian business stereotype of unreliability.

I have used Friendly Rentals for 4 trios to Rome and Florence and will be using them again in Sept for Paris and Rome. The apartment in Rome called the Gaia will be perfect for you in Rome. I have stayed there before...wonderful location on Via del Governo Vecchio close to Piazza Navona. Hope this helps!
