Republique Hotel, Paris - does anyone know anything about it?
I am considering booking in to the Republique Hotel in Paris for 5 nights, but before I do I would be interested to hear from anyone who has stayed there or knows anything about it. Thank you.
Jack.

What a strange idea. The Republique Hotel is a transit hotel for people who needs a bed between two trains. In fact, they more or less admit this on their own advertising and site. You're coming for 5 nights, why would you choose it over hundreds of nice hotels in the same price range?
But the real problem is the location. It is between two seedy areas, Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est, and worst of all, it is just off Place de la Republique, the noisiest junction in Paris, a truly unattractive spot. I would strongly suggest you change your plans.

Are you sure you don't mean Holiday Inn Republique ??? If so, it's a 4**** hotel. There are about 20 hotels with Repubique in their names, you need to be very specific if you want info. If you are talking about the Holiday Inn Republique it has had some marvelous reviews on this board, we are staying there in April 2004 as a matter of fact.

Thanks, patrick & lori. Patrick, it sounds as though you have saved me from a fate worse than death. The reason i chose this particular hotel was that it was recommended to me by the castex hotel as their "sister hotel" (after castex completes its renovations in march 2003 it will be a *** hotel, and out of my price range). After reading the wonderful reviews of the castex on this site, i assumed its sister hotel would be something similar.
Thanks again for your advice.
Jack
