Has anyone rented scooters and toured the islands that way? We've rented some when vacationing in Bermuda and loved it! Just wondering about safety, etc in Greece doing the same. Thanks

This question is being asked frequently....

I will copy what i wrote to a recent similar thread :
<<I have been living in both Mykonos and Santorini, and i know what is happening with all the tourists who think that driving a scooter, ATV etc is saving money ( compared to a car) and it's also fun....
You have no idea how many accidents happen every year, some of them really heavy from people who rented a scooter without any experience. It is absolutely dangerous, and also illegal, if you don't have a special Drivers permit for scooters etc, which is required in Greece !!!!
For your own safety, it would be better to spend a few Euros more and rent a car. >>
With other words, don't do it
I've rented an ATV on Santorini, Naxos, Paros and took it on the ferry to Antiparos. I live in New York City and only drive occasionally. I was totally comfortable and never felt unsafe. I was just careful. I loved it and will do it again next visit.
when i am in bermuda, i do not rent mopeds bc i get confused with the whole driving on the opposite side of the road thing...when im in santorini i rent a car (Romani rental=cheap). when im in mykonos i rent ATV bc roads are bumpy and rough. i will rent a moped in santorini next time i go...
