renting an apartment in Paris; clickappart

We are planning a trip to Paris in May for two weeks, and were considering renting an apartment. I have never done this before, but this seems to be relatively common in this area.

We have found some attractive listing on a web site called clickappart.com, but can't find anything about them to get comfortable booking through them.

Does anyone have experience with this particular site, know where I can find info on them, or know a trustworthy site to use?

There are a couple of reviews on SlowTrav for apartments rented through this agency, and they have a classified ad on SlowTrav

If you want someplace nice, without worrying, they you might want to check on Paris Perfect. They own their own properties, so are a little different than your usual booking service.

ParisPerfect is great but pricey. We booked through homeaway.com.

There have been several apartment in Paris threads lately, try to check some of those out. Vacationinparis is the agency I've rented an apartment from in Mid Feb.

Yours is a common question here. The good news is that many Fodorites have experience renting apartments in Paris and there is much valuable information archived on this site. Use the search box above and type in "Paris apartment" to get started in your search. Here is one of the very best threads about Paris apartment rentals.

Thanks for the input. Does anyone know if there is a French equivalent of the Better Business Bureau or similar agency?

We are trying an agency called http://www.usaparis.com/. We have been able to get all of our questions answered immediately for our trip this May. Some other friends have now also booked with them. She lived in Paris for a year.

We love love loved Paris Perfect, but it was out of our price range this time.

We rented a flat through VRBO.com for our up coming trip to Paris. I feel very good about the process so far. We also rented a flat in London and last year we rented a house on Kauai through VRBO. It seems like they have something for everyone! I highly recommend VRBO.com

JasVolley, I am guessing that if there were some vetting agency such as the BBB for Paris rentals, people here would know about it. I think that because so many of us have rented apartments in Paris, and talked so much about the various agency. I have not heard of any such organization. Doesn't mean there isn't one, only that I've read hundreds, maybe thousands, of internet questions and listings and ads for Paris apartments and I've come across no such reference.

Be aware that VRBO stands for Vacation Rentals By Owner(s?) and is a listing service. A reputable one as far as that goes, but the apartments all have separate owners, just like clickappart.

We used habitatparisien and they were quite professional, and easy to deal with.

Since many rentals by owner in Paris are arguably illegal now, I would not expect an official or quasi-official vetting agency.

WE have used Vacation in Paris several times >I like them because you get the keys before you leave home and don't have to waqit for someone to show up or go to the rental office before you can get in! Also you can pay with your credit card and the key deposit is promptly returned when they get the keysw back. They also have a local agent if you have any problem and they don't require a security deposit, you pay a small fee for an insirance policy against breakage !

Anyone else notice that this is a thread from 3 1/2 years ago ? Surely Jas Volley's apartment choice has been made by now ?

And what a glowing review for clickappart by Ivy. So maybe there was a point to reviving the thread after all.
Sorry to be such a skeptic. As Montaigne wrote: Que sais-je ?

The thread is ancient and was topped by an advertiser.
