Renting a Nissan Micra

Anybody out there ever rented a Nissan Micra for a week?
If so, could you tolerate it for that long?
As a related issue, what is the advantage to renting from Hertz and paying in advance?

I rented a Punto once and found it it to be slightly punishing. Did ok in the city because one could slip through the cracks so to speak, but on the highway it jolted ones frame a bit.

I had one for 18 days in June, picked it up in Paris and returned it in Périgueux. I prefer smaller cars, so I guess I'm used to the jolts others find bothersome. I rented it through www.autoeurope.com and declined the CDW coverage because my credit card will carry it with no deductible.

Part depends on what you are used to driving. Also to how tall/large you are. And what you expect a car to do.

We always rent a powerful (usually midsize or sporty) automatic since 1) we want to be comfortable (not ride in a tin can), 2) we like pick up on a highway, 3) we both like to drive fast cars fast and 4) neither of us is petite - I'm 5'9" and DH is 6'3" and we don;t want to be squashed. (My personal car in a small sporty coupe with a lot of room up front - but none in the back - but it has great pick up.)

We rented this size car from Hertz when we were in Ireland last year. (I don't think we actually got the Micra, but it was that class of car.) It was perfectly comfortable seating for 2 people for a week of driving. There just wasn't much space in the trunk. It was advertised as having enough room for 1 large and 2 small suitcases. We could only fit one carry-on suitcase in the trunk. Our other carry-on had to go in the back seat.

The Micra could take a 22" and a 21" suitcase in the trunk, but not in a conventional layout. However, it might have been able to hold the two upright, like my subsequent car, a smaller Hundyai i10 http://www.flickr.com/photos/mksfca/...57623094971409

The layout is probably similar to the Fiat500: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mksfca/...7623094971409/

I have even used a Smart for a week on the road. You can tell if a coin is heads or tails when you drive over it. Fun!
