Renting a car to explore White Hill towns

Hi. A friend and I will be in Spain in mid-October. We will be arriving in Madrid and then head to Andalusia. We are planning on taking the train to get from one city to another and in some cases a bus may be the better option. Our route is Madrid, Córdoba, Seville, Ronda, Granada and back to Madrid.

What is the best way to explore the White Hill towns? We will be there for 3 nights. If we rent a car, do we just need it for that area? Or would it make sense to rent the car in Seville and drive from there? Then would we drive to Granada and return the car there? Or return it in Rhonda?

I've read streets are narrow and difficult to navigate. Is hiring a driver an option? What about taking a taxi?

I don't know about Rhonda or the white hill towns in particular, but we rented a car in Cordoba, drove it to the Sierra Aracena, and then returned it in Seville which worked beautifully. If the white towns are anything like the little villages in the Sierra Aracena you are best off parking in the public parking outside the town and walking from there. The streets are very narrow and hard to navigate, and if you use GPS or google maps it will take you in weird ways (as in up a flight of stairs lol). Have a great time

The ONLY places for which you might need a car for this trip would be some of the white towns OTHER THAN Ronda (which can be reached by public tranportation). And some of the other white towns can also be reached without a car. Consult rome2rio.com, google maps, or the Rough Guide or Lonely Planet for your options.

What kja wrote.
If you have a list of White Villages you want to explore in between Sevilla and Ronda and Granada it will be easier to say if a rental car can be useful or necessary.
In general, driving in Spain is no rocket science. The roads are well maintained and well signposted. The villages often have a central parking lot outside the historic village center where visitors can or must park.

You need an international drivers license, go to AAA.

I would pick up a car when leaving Seville and drop it off when arriving in Granada. The white hill villages are not very interesting, but see for yourself. Hope you won't be too disappointed.

Whether you find white towns/villages interesting or not depends on your expectation. What is breathtaking is often the setting, which can be best appreciated from a distance, across a valley for example. What I enjoy is spending some time walking up and down the alleyways, enjoying different vistas and visiting churches, often full of flowers and figures used for Semana Santa processions, and Mudajar decorations and old minaret used as bell tower. A wonder trip back in history.
