Renting a car and driving east from Rome

Jump to last reply

I need to rent a car to drive from Rome to Ancona, in November. I'll use either Kemwell or AutoEurope, but I would appreciate suggestions about where to pick up the car. (Drop off is Florence airport.)

We're staying in the Campo de Fiori, and there are several downtown rental offices, plus the Termini. But, I keep looking at Ciampino airport, especially for Friday mid-morning traffic. Also, I need a fairly specific car, for 5-passengers plus 5 rollie bags. Several of the station wagons will work, but not all. I think an airport might have more choice. Ciampino looks like I'm heading in the right direction, albeit a bit to the south!

I understand that Orvieto is a good option, but getting five people to the train station, then to Orvieto, is more heroic than a 15 mile taxi ride to the airport.

Any insights or suggestions would be appreciated. Thx!
