My husband and I (and perhaps 21 year old son) are looking for a one week rental in western Ireland. We have already been there before but stayed mostly in B&Bs. I am looking for a nice to semi lux place with two bedrooms, charm but can be rustic. And I realize I am not making myself clear at all. Having just returned from a dismal apartment in Rome with no good lighting, horrible linens and one towel, I really would like something with a little more luxury. Any ideas? Help needed and will be appreciated.

May I suggest the beautiful cottage at Strasburgh Manor just moments outside Ennis...very beautiful restoration completed by the hostess over many67 years. Clean, well equipped, great location for many day trips http://homepage.eircom.net/~strasburgh/homes.html
I've stayed in both the large house and the smaller one and forund them both delightful!
We stayed at Hazel Cottage a couple of summers ago, in June/July. It is absolutely beautiful and literally has every amenity you could imagine, from steam room to sauna to whirlpool tub. Fantastic beds and a pool table in the barn. The owners are great people and the price was really good. What we really liked about it was that it gave us a good base to star out to see just about anything we wanted from the cliffs of Moher south.
You absolutely have to have a car for this place, but the town is only about 2 kilometers away.

Thank you ever so much. That is exactly the type of information I've been looking for. Both Hazel Cottage and Strasburgh manor look great. Has anyone stayed in Amelia's or know of other great rentals further north on the Western coast?
