My husband and are are planning a trip from 9/18-10/1. This is our intinerary so far:
9/19- Arrive in Florence
9/20 - Florence
9/21 - Florence
9/22 - Florence
9/23 - Get car drive to Tuscany and have dinner/ spend night
9/24 - Tuscany
9/25 - Tuscany
9/26- Tuscany
9/27 - Early AM Drive to Positano
9/28 - Positano or other Amalfi Coast place
9/29 - Positano or other Amalfi Coast place
9/30 - Drive to rome. Spend day and night in rome
10/1 - Fly out
Just wondering if you have any recommendations of rental cars that offer automatic, not stick.

When requesting a quote from AutoEurope or Nova rentals, you can specify automatic. You'll pay a lot more than a manual (and your car will be huge), but you can definitely request one up front.

Unless you (or the driver, if you are not doing it) are experienced in driving in Italy, I do not think driving the Amalfi Coast is what you really want to do.

Rent a car for your four days in Tuscany and return it in Florence.

You can do the route in reverse to get from Positano to Rome. In late September, the weather may cause a ferry cancellation, in which case you use the bus alternative.

It will be considerably cheaper and probably much easier on the nerves in addition to allowing both of you to enjoy the Amalfi Coast views instead of concentrating very, very hard on driving.

Of course, see www.autoeurope.com, but you will pay 30% more for auto. Nice trip, but I would drop that car in Sorrento and use local transport on the AC. As you depart, hire a driver to Salerno and train to Rome from there. A car is actually a hassle on that coast and you can hire a lot of transport for the cost of rental and parking. Ask your hotel for help. Find the recent trip report from Ms_Go for wonderful info on that area.

Thanks for the tips. We are gonna drop off our car in Sorrento and get a ride to Positano. The rates I've been seeing are about 50-60 euros for a driver. Does that sound about right?
