Relative search

I am trying to trace my Mother's sister (Rosemary (Buchner - maiden name) as she would have been just before the wall went up leaving her in East Germany. Her mother and other children in the family were taken to the safety of West Germany. Sisters: Ursula/Hilda and Brothers: Willie/Eric & Eddie all alive and scattered. I have tried needlessly to locate this lady. The boys in the family were adopted by my Grandmother's second husband and renamed Baxendale however, the girls all remained Buchner. They all lived in Alt Ruppin near Neu Ruppin in their childhood til WW2. If anyone can point me in a direction to locate my aunt I would be very grateful. My mother has not seen/heard from her and her heart is empty with pain. I have contacted the red cross and salvation army and at the moment no success. I am hoping above everything that this lady is still alive.
Thank you in advance,
Carol

Hello cazjc01,

is it possible that the name of the person, you are looking for, is Büchner (in English spelling: Buechner)?

Carol: my husband found more genealogical information in one hour at the World Family History research Center in Salt Lake City than in 10 years of searching records here and there by himself. Among the family treasures he found were the ship manifest with his ancestor's names, 19th century USA Census Bureau records listing every familiy member (age, address, occupation, etc...), even newspapers clips with some noteworthy firefighting good deed his great-great-great grandfather did. By the way, his family came to New York from Austria, spend time in Pensylvannia, then Oklahoma, some came then back to NY. The center had records of every location. I would strongly suggest you get yourself to Salt Lake City and committ to spend some research time at the Center.

Both the names Buchner and Büchner appear in the telephone guide, in Alt-Ruppin and neighbouring hamlets Alt-Lutterow and Zechlin. No Rosemary, though.
If your aunt got married, she will most likely have taken her husband's name.
I don't find a contact for Alt-Ruppin but it doesn't hurt to email the community of Neu-Ruppin ([email protected]) and raise your question. Due to the privacy law, it will be very difficult though, to obtain information.
Good luck to you!

It just dawned on me that this is a person who may still be alive, pretty recent. Wish you the best of luck in reuniting your family.

Carol,
Your problem related to genealogy, but involves recent generations so is a little trickier. I have located relatives in Sweden (third cousins) through genealogy research, then by finding someone helpful to look in local phone books. I'm thinking you might try first by posting messages in a genealogy website. Ancestry.com has family name message boards. You could post your message under Buchner, for example. I checked their site and this was the Buchner surname message board:
http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?ht...rnames.buchner
I don't know if you can go directly to the site by using my string, or if you have to go through their main site, then find the board. You will at least be finding people who have done research on the name, and perhaps in the same part of Germany. You might find some helpful person who lives in Germany who may give you some ideas. There are a lot of other sites you could try, but this one I've found to be as good as any. You could also check through Cindy's List, on Germany, to see what she has posted regarding good websites. Cindy is the ultimate in gathering together information on resources to use. Her site is: http://www.cyndislist.com/
Good luck! I'm hopeful for you that with some persistence, you will find your aunt.

On the stayfriends Deutchland site someone called:
Sieghart Büchner comes up in Alt Ruppin. May be a long shot but could be a starting point.
This is the translated search page.

Being intrigued by this kind of situations, I have been looking a bit further into the www.
Do you happen to know the birth day of your aunt? There are a few Rosemarie Büchner listed, one of them in a village on the German/Polish border (former East Germany). Her BD is Dec. 3 (it doesn't state a year) and it says "Rentnerin", which means that the lady is retired.

I also recommend posting your question on www.ancestry.com. Good luck! I've done geneaology work for my ancestors in Switzerland and found it very rewarding!
