Hello! we are finishing the touches of our 11 day trip to Italy in April. DH and I are starting in Florence (4 nights) and ending in Venice. We are debating whether to stay in the Cinque Terre at all for 1 night (DH really wants to go), then go to Reggio N'Emillia from which we can eat our way through Bologna, Parma, Modena. we could rent a car during those days.... OR do we just go to Verona and stop in Bologna on our way, and stay in Verona 2 nights before going to Venice.
Thanks!
Reggio n'Emilia or Verona for 2 nights during Italy in April

If you are serious about having an optimal food experience of Emilia-Romagna in April, you should look at the Emilia-Romagna threads on the Chowhound website Italy forum. if you are going to have a car, you have the possibility of eating at some near legendary small inns (where you can also sleep) in the low hills around Bologna, Modena and Parma (near the Po river). You can find recommendation on past Chowhound threads.
April sees a lot of rain around le Cinque Terre, so you should keep your plans flexible. If your husband really wants to go, then it is better to hang out around Parma or Reggio nell'Emilia and then scoot down for a day when all the weather forecasts agree it will be dry and sunny rather than book a hotel weeks in advance.
In terms of logistics, obviously Verona is more "on the way' to Venice from Florence -- and it is a terrific Italian destination with great wine, and I'm sure you can find good restaurants. But if you ultimately decide on 2 nights in Verona for simplicity's sake, then I would not rent a car. Use the trains.
great advice thanks....will search Chowhound now
any good hotel recommendations in Verona?
