redux: Barcelona and Macanet with a slow/limited walker

Jump to last reply

Hello, In 2010 I asked for help in planning a trip to Barcelona, then travel to several places that my husband's father had lived. He has a cousin or two in Barcelona, we believe, and family up in Macanet de Cabrenys. We got some great ideas from several people on this site.
Well, sadly that trip didn't work out but we're going to try again in May of this year. So, we'd be grateful for suggestions for places/areas to stay in Barcelona where we think we will spend almost a week since two activities a day are usually his limit. On recent US trips it has been a godsend to have room service and an on site restaurant when fatigue is overwhelming but a friend has recommended apartment rental in Barcelona.( Another family member suggested we stay in Palamos and do some day trips to Barcelona as the hotels are more reasonably priced in Palamos but I think the travel back and forth would not be a wise investment of energy.) Then we plan to rent a car and drive to Palamos, La Bisbal, Figueres, up to Macanet then back through Montserrat to Barcelona and home. Suggestions on route order of drive trip and places to stay, restaurants(especially good food/good price)- all welcome.
