First of all I will be traveling alone to rome Paris. Also taking a cruise on the Oceania starting in rome to nice. I need to find a great hotel in rome that is close to all the important sites as I will only be there for 2 days before getting on the cruise ship. I was thinking about staying in the Jewish getto as I love the history. I am not Jewish but I have heard that it is a very historic place to stay. What do you think about staying there? If so what b&b do you recommend. I have contacted a number of them and they are already filled. I will be in rome on may 18th 19th and boarding the ship on the 20th. Please give me any info you can. I'm a senior traveler. Thank you.

You need to educate yourself about what stars mean in relation to hotels in Europe - it's nothing like the star system in the USA, so what you may be expecting could be way off base.

Gracious, we.come to Fodor's. your topic heading and your request don't match. A b&b isn't the same as a 4-5 star hotel which I suspect you already know.

StCirq is right about the star rating system. You will probably get better responses if you tell us in EUROS what your nightly budget is. Given that you only have two days in Rome you are probably better to stay right inthe centre do Rome so that you can use your time efficiently.

Look at Hotel Smeraldo in Campo de Fiori on Booking.com. It is in a great spot near everything,has wonderful prices and nice rooms with a breakfast along with being in a neighborhood with grocery stores,ATM's,bakery,etc. It is a block from Piazza Navona and two blocks to the Pantheon along with being a block from the tram to Trastevere which takes 5 minutes across the Tiber River. It has a rooftop terrace which is nice at nice with a glass of wine and is very safe for a single traveler.It also has air conditioning which is important from May on in Rome!

Thanks everyone for your quick reply. The only reason I mentioned b&b is that it was recommend if I stay in the Jewish ghetto. Anyone familiar with this area?? If I don't find a place to stay there. What hotel do you recommend I stay in in order to be close to all the important sites. I'm looking for a budget price of between 150 and 250 euros. Per night

Croatia Airlines flies to Brussels in May. The problem is, of course, that you are trying to fly to and from a summer resort but not in summer.

I live in a different summer resort, and our summer flights don't start until May 31 and our summer ferry schedule until June 15.

Sorry. I was working on two posts at once. You will find Brussels, though full of excellent hotels and B&B's, to be a long hike from the Ghetto, whereas Campo di Fiore is just around the corner, a few minutes walk.

gracious - a good place to look for accommodation by area is venere.com - you settle on what area of Rome/Brussels/Paris you want and then see what it available by date/facility/price etc.

The campo dei fiori area of Rome is very central, quite safe, [though i have heard it suggested that it can be a little noisy at night] and very close to most of the things you might want to see in 2 days, including the ghetto. if its history really interests you, it is possible to visit the synagogue which we thought was fascinating.

the centre of Rome is very walkable, and with a good map you should be able to find your way around very easily.

The suggestion of using www.venere.com is a good one, esp. since there is not alot of time until you travel. You can search on venere by area and availablity. Not sure about staying in the ghetto, most areas of Rome have plenty of "atmosphere" and you could spend a morning walking around the ghetto area. But I think a hotel near Camp di Fiori would be close by and a very lively area to stay in.

I recently stayed at Hotel Campo de Fiori which I really loved, and should be within your price range. Great rooftop deck and lovely included breakfast. We easily walked to the ghetto from there, as well as to all the major sites of Rome. Buon viaggio!

OK - 250 euros will not get you anywhere near a 5 star hotel and probably not a 4* - they simply cost more than that. And since the trip is so soon any very early prepay deals are long gone.

And any reputable hotel in Rome is safe.

Trastevere is one central location but there are a lot of others. We like the area around Pza Navona and the Pantheon - but I can't help with specific hotels since this is not our price point. But if you look at posts on Rome hotels here I'm sure you will find some recos. (The Albergo Senato always gets good reviews but I don;t know what the rates are for your dates.)

We stayed at the Hotel Pantheon back in 2011; very nice (and central) location; and the accomodation was fine. You will feel safe there, I think.

We loved the Aberdeen hotel in Rome. Easy to get to any place while not being on a noisy bust street. We will stay there again someday.

We usually stay at the Hotel Genio, right at Piazza Navona. Location is perfect for us and we love the rooftop terrace.

We have walked to (almost) everywhere from there.

We stayed at an apartment in the ghetto neighborhood and really enjoyed that part of the city. Many people have recommended a B & B called Arco del Lauro which is in Trastevere right across the Tiber river from the ghetto. You should be able find information about it if you do an advanced search going back a few years in the Europe forum.
