Recommendations for Dinner in Mont Saint Michel
Yes, I've read the "tourist trap" posts and that you can't get a decent meal, it's overpriced, poor service in season but despite all that my husband and I will be spending the evening and are searching for a place to eat. Not dine, eat; we're not foodies and our expectation is just that the food tastes good. Even our peasant palates can discern when it doesn't!
I've searched Fodors under the various iterations of location spelling: Mont Saint Michel, Mt Saint Michel, Mt St Michel and there isn't a whole lot especially recently. We would prefer to remain on the island as our intention is to arrive later in the day and explore then dine after the notorious throngs of tourists have departed.
While I have your attention, if you know of a place that you would recommend for breakfast please add that.
Thank you very much.

Hi Sorriso,
First off, I have no restaurant recommendations, but I did visit MSM last month.
I was on a tour and we stayed at a hotel at the end of the causeway. Have you made your reservations to stay “on” the Mont? Not sure how many hotels are there.
You are probably aware that the parking situation has changed drastically – no more parking on the causeway. I would assume that the hotel would pick you up at the new, distant parking area. There is a tram/conveyance which covers a good part of the causeway, but I saw no regular vehicles.
I did see one man booting it on foot across the causeway dragging his wheeled suitcase – he did not look too happy. My understanding is that if you stay at one of the hotels, as we did, at the far end of the causeway, you can park there.
If you are interested, you may click on my name and read about my experience at MSM on my Paris trip report (quite long!) under TUESDAY, JUNE 12.
Mont St. Michel is worth the effort…

I just jumped ahead in your trip report to the Mont Saint Michel entry--you weren't exaggerating on the "quite long" part! I will go back and read the Paris entries as we will spend three nights in Paris before flying home.
