Recommendations for a French town to visit plz..

Hi, I'm looking for a town to visit in France. I'll be coming from Switzerland - probably Lucerne or Bern. Seeking a town in France with a chateau or 2 to visit and do a little wine-tasting. I won't be driving so must be accessible by bus or train. Would also like to end my trip in France, so a town which I can reach an Int'l airport from - maybe fly home from Lyon? Appreciate your suggestions. Thanks, Greg

Paris has a couple of chateaux: the Louvre, Versailles, and the chateau de Vincennes. It also has quite a few wine bars where you can taste various wines. They have the advantage of covering more than one wine area of France. You could fly out of CDG. There is a TGV connection from Basel.

If you want to fly home from Lyon, try Beaune; or Dijon. Nearby castle include Château de Bussy-Rabutin, Château Bazoches, and Château Rochepot. You are in the heart of Burgundy

Dijon is (of course) a very good idea as a base thanks to its great history and architecture. You may also go on a wine tour with one of the local agencies you'll find on the tourist office website (http://www.visitdijon.com/en/dijon_vignoble.htm ) They all get good reviews on tripadvisor.
Dijon has a good transport network and you also may take a train (20min 7€) to Beaune (or a bus for 1.50€) and go to a wine cellar there (Marché aux Vins, Patriarche and the Caves du Couvent des Cordeliers for ex)
Then you can either take a flight from Lyon or CDG (2hours from Dijon). You don't say when you're travelling and how long you wish to stay, we could then give you more ideas...

Thanks for the great suggestions. I'm planning the trip for either late May or mid-June, not quite sure which yet. Planning to stay in France about 5 days max. The 5th day will probably be my final day - flying home. Greg
