recommendations for 2 BR in Rome
We are planning to visit Europe next summer after my son graduates from high school. Our actual goal is to visit Malta for a week, but would like to spend a little time in Rome either before or after. Our sons will be 18 and 19, and we would prefer a 2-BR apartment over a hotel. I have looked at the VRBO site, but would like to hear first hand experiences/recommendations from anyone who has gone this route. Thanks!

We stayed at the Domus Julia in May 2006. It's sort of a cross between a hotel and an apartment.
It's the annex to the Hotel Julia, and your room rate includes a nice breakfast buffet in the hotel's pretty breakfast room. You also have the services of the Hotel's front desk.
Our room was a twin, with a relatively new bathroom. We entered our room through a shared dining room/kitchen. There was another bedroom with a private bath, which also shared this eating space.
The Domus Julia is very clean and a great value. Near the Spanish Steps and the Barberini Palace, on a relatively quiet and small side street.
Here's my trip report about it, with all the details:

We had a very good experience renting from Tim Pearson at realrome.com. That agency has a number of 2 BR apartments at reasonable prices. They don't require a full week rental
I am not sure what price range you are considering. Generally apartments should give better value for the money than hotels in the central historic area of Rome.

How about one of these places?

I can't comment on the apartments, but I can recommend the agency from when we used them.
