Recommendation for nice area on eastern coast of france

Hello,

We (2 adults 4 kids 10-13) will be traveling in france in July and are trying to determine which area of the east coast we would like to spend about 4 days in.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a nice beach and coastal town that would be interesting to explore from for 4 days.

We will be in Dorgone also so was looking at Arachon, Ile de Rochelle or St Jean de Luz.

If you had to choose 1 spot what would you recommend. We will have a car and are open to renting in a quieter campground, house, or hotel in town.

Thank you,
Belinda

Maybe they mean the eastern part of the south coast. Time will tell. Or not.

St Jean de Luz is a long drive, I don't think worth it. Sorry I can't help with the others.

Or the Nice area? As opposed to a nice area?

I presume they meant west coast given the references to being in Dordogne

We were in the Pays Basque (St Jean) for 2 weeks last year, and also Arcachon for a day. The latter is the closest to the Dordogne. We really enjoyed Arcachon. However, I'm not sure it would hold your interest for 4 days with 4 kids unless you wanted to spend most of your time at the beach.

I think I would go to the Pays Basque, with some ventures into the Pyrenees. Or the Roussillon area near Perpignon where Pvoyageuse lives. Base in Collioure and do some trips into the Pyreneese from the eastern end. We stayed near there in Ceret for 2 weeks about 9 years ago & kept busy sightseeing every moment of the 2 weeks. Pvoyageuse is the expert on this region, & she can suggest a bunch of things to do.

Thank you StuDudley, I will look into Collioure and Ceret.

We all enjoy hiking and the beach would just be a day so we would explore the other 3 days. Hoping to find one place to stay and do day trips out of as the kids are happier when they don't change beds every 2 days.

Any other ideas for a good home base to explore from?

I Dorgone any ideas for a good base village/city?

Thank you all.

I suggest that you get reservations settled pronto if you want to be near water in France in July. I would pick Biarritz, though it is going to be busy busy. Drive over to beautiful San Sebastian for a day.

I really enjoyed Bayonne - used it as a base to visit St. Jean de Luz, St. Jean Pied du Port and Pau.

>>I emjoyed my stays in Paimpol, Cancale<<

That's pretty far away from the Dordogne.
