Recent trip to paris, south of france
Recently returned from trip. stayed at very nice hotel on quai st.michael in heart of latin quarter- les rives de notre dame- it is a charming ten room hotel right across from the siene, notre dame. I found Nice to be the most english friendly city- they also had great cafes, restaurants and this is a great place to visit. pecherie saleya in the court with all of the restaurants is highly recommended if you like seafood- have great oysters. Hotel westminster is right on the promenade next to hotel negresco. the hotel was very nice and reasonable around 170euros- I highly recommend this place.I also found cannes to be very enjoyable- it is more glitzy than nice and a good experience- also the beach in cannes is very nice- originally stayed at the beach on hotel martinez but enjoyed the miramar beach much more. The only place that was somewhat disappointing on the trip was monaco in contrast to many other reviews on this site. Their was very little to do, nice and cannes had fairly similiar picturesque views. Monaco is also extremely difficult to walk around in due to all of the streets going up in the mountains- small square footage but your legs will be tired by end of day. The one thing I did like in monaco was cafe paris next to the casino- had great lunch, not cheap though. I recommend in france checking your bill before paying as twice the bill was totally wrong- charged me for food that was never ordered and they did not seem surprised when I told them.

I too also thought miramar beach is great in cannes. However I thought the big name beaches such as those run by hotel martinez and the Carlton were overrated and not worth the steep price. Miramar beach was much nicer than these beaches. cannes is a definite must see when in the riviera.<BR>ted
