Read it all on Russian entrance requirements. Looking for confirmation
OK I have read almost everything written on entrance into Russia and I want to make sure I have it right. I leave in less than 3 weeks on this well needed time away. I have my visa and BC plane ticket so I am ready to go. Tell me if I am wrong or missing something below.
1) Fly to Moscow
2) Get off plane and go through customs
3) Fill out migration card
4) Get Passport or visa stamped ?
5) At some desk, they keep half my migration card????
6) GO to Hotel and they will stamp my passport with visitors stamp?
7) Once I get this I am OK for rest of trip
8) Turn in 2nd half of migration card once when I leave?
I know I may be missing something but I think I have read so much it may have confused me.
Any other contructive comments on the trip are welcomed.

Fly to Moscow, I'll asume that you are arriving at SVO2.
You will have a bit of a walk, down a long escalator or long set of stairs. Just before immigration, you go down another small set of stairs. It is here that you will find the migration cards, if you were not given one on your flight, the cards are on a small counter on the left and right wall at the bottom of the steps. Make sure that you have the card filled out, top and bottom before you go through immigration. If two of you are together, one of you stand in line at immigration while the other fills out the cards. The lighting in the area is poor.
Hint: Get a copy of the Migration card before you leave home, fill it out. This will make it easier when you have to fill out the real card, especially with the poor lighting. The real card is small with small print, it comes in English or Russian, but English ones are not always available. The sample cards can be seen on waytorussia.net
Procede through immigration, present passport, with visa and arrival/departure card, (the piece of paper stapled in your passport), along with your migration card. This will take a couple of minutes as they run your information through computer. They will do a bunch of stamping, tear off part of your arrival/departure card, tear of part of your migration card, give everything back, the gate will open, and you have entered Russia.
Next ,just ahead of you you will see the luggage carosels, check for the correct one. Look around for luggage carts, usually on the left. Look for ATM if you want RBLs, they are in the vicinity.
Once you have your luggage, and if you have nothing to declare, procede to Customs, through the Green Channel if you have nothing to declare, if you are making a declaration, fill out the form and procede through Red Channel. Most tourist have nothing to declare, see waytorussia.net for more information.
Procede through the sliding doors to the awaiting mob of taxi drivers and people holding signs with names. I'll assume you are being met by someone. If not, let me know, and I will give you more information.
After you check in at the hotel they will want to keep your passport, and other papers for an hour or so. This is to have your documents registered. Don't forget to pick them up.
You must have a registration for every city you visit for more than three days, however if you are a tourist the registration pretty well is automatic when you check into your hotel.
Any questions?

1) Fly to Moscow
2) Get off plane. Have migration card filled out before hand. Usually, given out in flight. Or located at bottom of steps to the left of passport control
3) Already done
4) Get passport stamped. Passport control will keep the entrance half of your migration card.
5)Passpsort control will take half your migration card
6) Hotel will take your passport and "register" you upon check-in. :You can usually have your passport back within 30minutes to 1 hour. Do not leave the hotel without retrieving your passport w/visa. If you are stopped by the police and asked to show your passport/visa, no problem if you have it. If you leave hotel before getting your passport back and then stopped by the police, it will not be a fun experience.
7)Yes, but if you are staying at differnt hotels, each hotel will "register" you.
8)Yes
Garfield has given a good visual representation of exactly what it will be like. Quite a simple process really.
I would suggest if possible to have transportation available and waiting for you at SVO2, lest you don't want to deal with the inundation of hordes of taxi drivers who will be greeting you as you enter the arrival area thru the sliding doors.
Have a great time. Russia is a wonderful. You are gonna have a great time.
