Ravello to A3: Amalfi coast or inland?

After staying in Sorrento and then Positano I have to choose a drive ending in the A3 autostrada towards Rome. Do I drive to Ravello and then inland or do I continue down the cost to Maiori and just before Salrerno to the autostrada. The problem is one of us hates curves and the other hates drop off cliffs, but we will both take xanex so we can realize a dream and see the Amalfi coast. So-has anyone actually driven the inland Ravello to A3 road?

Outside high summer season, I'd say it's a toss up regarding both, travelling time and curves. In summer season, S18 should have less traffic than S163. I think you should play it by ear. Drive from Amalfi, on S163, to Cetara (eventually making the Ravello detour). If you like the driving conditions, just continue on to Vietri sul Mare. Otherwise, take S18 to Cava de' Tirreni and A3.

Carol- We drove both last May. We were glad we drove the inland route to Ravello before braving the drive along the coast. The inland road is not that bad and the views are nice. The worst part about the coastal roads are backing up, etc. for all the tour buses.
