I'm driving from London, through France, to Barcelona. I've got the route there tentatively mapped out, stopping in Paris for three nights then on to Dijon, Lyon, staying a night in Avignon then on to Barcelona.
I want to take another route back, see some different cities. I was thinking I'd drive up towards the west side on the way back, through Bordeaux, Tours and Rouen. I'm planning on two overnight stays but have no idea where.
I'm wondering if anyone can suggest some good places to stay overnight along that route or maybe some things worth stopping to see.
thanks,
robyn

Robyn,
If you only plan two nights of stops between Barcelona and London you will not have time to see anything, even in a superficial way. Paris to Barcelona itself is 12 hours of driving, going a direct route. If you plan to veer west on the return trip from Barcelona, you will add countless more hours. (I drove on the highway from Lourdes to Barcelona two years ago, and that required 6 hours of non-stop driving itself). I fear that you won't really get to "see" any places at all.
Just some feedback.

Hi
It takes a day to cross Spain from the Med to the Atlantic. It is a nice trip to take the old road via Jaca and Pamplona. There is a motorway alternative ........ further but maybe faster.
The motorway from San Sebastion via Bordeaux, Tours to Paris is no problem in a day.
Another alternative is to return via the A75 through the Massif Central. It is a new motorway (one bridge not finished)and runs from Montpellier to Orleans. It is quiet and Toll free as far as Clermont Ferrand.
There is a site about it here -
http://www.a75.com/
Best to avoid the missing bridge at peak periods because the diversion through Millau can be slow.
Bon voyage.
Peter
Robyn, do not miss Carcassonne medieval city, and fantastic Collioure by the sea close to spanish border. Made similar trip few years ago and returned from Barcelona via Carcassonne andfrom Toulouse straight north through fois gras district, not to bad and very different. Nice to drive off motorways for some parts of trip, isnt it ?
