Rain Shoes for Paris?

Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent looking walking shoe that could survive a day of rain? We are going to Paris over Thanksgiving week and it is quite likely to rain. I was there last year in October and it poured the whole three days, so that by noon of the first day my feet were soaked. I thought I would just buy a pair of LLBean duck boots, but my husband (not normally one to pay a lot of attention to fashion) was appalled and said he would be embarrassed to be seen with me (we are staying at the George V, a few steps up from our usual hotel to celebrate a big birthday for him).

I would love to be comfortable in the rain, but I know my usual Mephiso walking shoes will be soaked quickly. A web search did not turn up much that wasn't either clunky hiking boots, or athletic sneaker type. Could just get some old fashioned rubbers, but would really like something gore-tex and reasonably good looking. Any ideas?

I just visited and it rained a couple days. I wore boots by Easy Spirit. I think Naturalizer and Rockport boots are allright too. They should soak through.

The last sentence should have said "They should NOT soak through." Sorry.

Check out the web sites for Massey shoes www.emassey.com and Wissota Trader www.wissotatrader.com. They both have a "Women's Outdoor" section. Some of the shoes are waterproof and some just water resistant but the styles are okay and at least not "duck" boots!

In dept stores and discount stores in the US I've often seen short rain boots.
Usually ankle height, black, zip front, often patent leather front, etc.
Under $35.
I bought them a little bigger and had room to insert a Dr Scholl's thick innersole to give me more cushioning when doing a lot of walking.
They're not bad looking at all, as long as you're wearing pants.

There is a Canadian shoe/boot label called Santana. They make soft leather fashionable boots and shoes that are waterproof. I use them in the snow, otherwise, when I have been in Paris or London, my regular leather shoes/boots have been sufficient.
Have a great time!

Since you already own a pair of Mephisto walking shoes, you know how comfortable Mephisto's are, but did you know that Mephisto makes a women's walking shoe in Gore-Tex? I think the name of the model is "Savana". I bought a pair three years ago, before a November trip to Italy, and I was glad I had them when it rained just about every day of the trip. They may not be the most elegant shoes in the world, but I think they meet your requirement of being reasonably good-looking (certainly more so than the average “clunky hiking boot”).

Spray your shoes with waterproofing agent. Eccos are waterproof--I tested this severely 2 weeks ago in France!

I'm planning a Thanksgiving trip to Paris as well, and I found a great pair of new Ecco gore tex boots. I've been wearing them in for the past week or so (it's been rainy and cold where I live), and they keep my feet warm and dry! They are comfortable as well (thought not as much as my Merrill's).

I forgot to add: my boots are fairly stylish. They're about two inches higher than my ankle, black, have a side zip, flat heel and grip the sidewalk very well in the rain. I've worn them with pants, long skirts and shorter skirts, and they look fine with everything.

I have some waterproof Eastland shoes that I like. They have a web site, I have found the Eastland line very comfortable and, well, fairly stylish. I also waterproof my own ankle boots and that works well too, but take a can with you for touchups.

Blundstones hold up well in the rain and are very comfortable "to boot"!

Thanks to all for the swift replies! It just started to rain in San Francisco, which made me realize I had not thought about my feet for the rain in Paris. We are getting perilously close to being out of time for computer-ordering so I appreciate the leads.

I have taken Munro's for every vacation...from snow to rain...and they always look good but the comfort is amazing! They hold up very well in the weather...even the snow in Scotland. They are fairly expensive (close to $100), but well worth it and they stay looking new for a very long time.

Mary Susan, I too live in SF. That storm was pretty severe last night. Anyway, about boots, I think all the above are pretty good suggestions.
