Rail Pass vs. Point to Point from Paris to Montreux on sncf website

Hello All. I am finally ready to book my rail tickets from Paris to Montreux, Switzerland in July. After extensive research (mostly on this site--thanks Morgan B!!), I have a question. The price for the regular fare point to point ticket is almost the same as the 4-day France/Switz. Eurail pass!! ($560 for 2) What I find is that on the sncf site it shows the seat numbers (haven't gone so far as to commit yet), whereas if I get a Eurail pass from BETS I will then have to get the seat reservation either from them (for an extra fee--anywhere from $10 to $30 per ticket, but I haven't called them yet) or at the station once I arrive in France. If that is the case, could I possibly not get the train I want? It shows only 3 outgoing trains in the time frame I want. Do you think the trains could be fully reserved if I don't do it ahead? I know that with the Eurail pass we will have other "free" travel, but we are only going to be in Switzerland 2 full days and really don't know if we want to travel all over or just relax. Any advice from you experienced travellers will be helpful!

I'd say you've done something wrong.

I get fares as low as 36EUR per person which is about 40USD & the most expensive fare is 85EUR (under 100USD)which is what it costs if you buy on the day

I would agree those poit to point prices sem high..as to equivalents 36 E would be about $46 and 85 E would be $109 (using Universal Currency Coverter).

Hi Pks,

At www.voyages-sncf.com, Paris/Montreux via Lausanne full fare 2cl is only 75E ($97) pp.

There is currently a PREMS fare for 77E pp on a TGV duplex (double decker).

Even Raileurope in the US has $100 Paris-Montreux fares in 2nd class so if can't get online that's the most you'd pay p.p. plus a $15 booking fee per order and you could get the ticket in your hand - BETS of course won't charge some of RE's mailing fees. But the 36 euro fare, if available and often you don't know until you try to actually book it seems to be a real bargain worth ferreting out.
