We'll be staying for 3 or 4 days in Vevey in early June next year. I read somewhere about a train that goes up into the mountains. Does anyone know where I can get more information on that? My husband and I will be traveling with our two kids - ages 4 and 6 by then...can anyone recommend an apartment or kid-friendly hotel in Vevey? Thanks so much!

Google "rochers de naye".
hi munichB,
we stayed in the hotel in the main square with our kids [somewhat older than yours, mind you] a few year ago. it was friday night and at about 3am on sat, they started setting out the stalls for the saturday market.
as I had only just got off to sleep having been kept me awake by the sound of church bells, I was not very happy.
we liked Vevey very much and the market was great fun [I've nver seen dandelion and nettle leaves for sale before] but I would NOT recommend staying anywhere in the market square.
regards, ann
There are actually several. Like the one from Vevey up to Les Pleiades. Or the one mentioned by kappa which runs from Montreux to Rochers-de-Naye. And the other running from Montreux towards Gstaad, also known as Montreux-Oberland-Bahn (MOB).
Try Hotel des Negociants, some Fodorites have stayed there and liked it.
If you're looking for the vineyard trail one, it's this:

Even if that's not the one you're looking for, you should check it out! Take the train up to Chexbres-Village, then walk back down along the vineyard trail to St Saphorin, where you can catch a train back to Vevey.
There is a farmer's market both on Saturdays and Tuesdays - or at least there was as of two years ago.
We stayed at the Hotel des Negociants and it was just fine.
Yes the market days are still Tues & Sat in Vevey, Friday in Montreux.
Rochers de Naye is a very beautiful tram ride, leaves from the Montreux train station (different ticket booth than the regular trains).
Hotel des Negociants is a good suggestion.
I agree with suspire about the Train des Vignes. If you are in Vevey, the walk in the Lavaux vineyard area is a MUST.
