Our second trip to Venice, my parents first. Last time stayed at Locanda Orseolo near St. Mark's Square. This time interested in Hotel Moresco in Dorsoduro (http://www.hotelmorescovenice.com/en/) . Reviews on TA are excellent, but everyone mentions it is close to Piazzale Roma and people have mentioned it is anywhere from a 20-45 minute walk to St. Mark's Square/Rialto Bridge. I don't need to be right in the thick of things, but also don't want to be too far away from good restaurants, etc. What do you guys think of where it is located - also proximity to vaporetto?? Thanks!
Question re:location of Hotel Moresco in Dorsoduro neighborhood of Venice

That section of Dorsoduro borders with San Polo (lots of good, reasonably priced restaurants) and also is not far from Campo Santa Margherita (lots of good, reasonably priced restaurants). The cloesest vaporetto is about 5 minutes walk over a few bridges to Piazzale Roma. Staying there, my tendency would be to walk 10 minutes in the other direction along more interesting to me routes to take the vaporetto at San Toma or Ca Rezzonico. If you are fond of walking, the closeness of the vaporetto stop may be of no importance.
This is one of my favorite parts of Venice, for all the reasons ellenem mentions. I also agree with her that the scenic routes (and there are many) are not in the direction of the closest vaporetto stop. There are a few not-beautiful buildings on the Fondamenta Rio Nuovo but there's no compelling reason to walk in that direction unless you're going to the bus or train stations.
I should mention that I enjoy walking, especially in Venice.
Thanks to both of you. So glad you both like this area. We don't mind walking and will take the scenic routes.
