Question on Rail Travel /Eurail Pass questions (Vienna-Paris)

I may take the night train from Vienna to Paris..i've never taken a night train, it's a long trip, but I'd like to try. I will likely reserve a couchette to save money.

Because I have a bit of train travel on this trip, I will probably get a Eurail youth pass. Now, my question is--will I be able to use this on the night train since Austria and France are not bordering countries? I'm confused.

Also, big question--you can smoke on this train right? If not, I'm changing my plans..
