Question on car rental drop off on the Amalfi Coast

Hello. We are heading to Tuscany and the Amalfi Coast in May. We are planning on picking up our rental car on the way out of Florence and then dropping it off a week later when we head to the Amalfi Coast. I'm not to keen on driving the coast so I was planning on dropping the car off in Sorrento on Saturday and then taking the ferry to Positano.

Naturally the car rental closes at 130pm on Saturday and this won't give us enough time to get down there to drop the car off as we were making a lunch stop in Tivoli on the way south. It wasn't clear if an after hours drop off was possible.

Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas? I can't seem to find a good ferry schedule link to see if there are other options on ferries to Positano besides Sorrento. Thanks

You can get transit from Naples - and I would image the offices there are open later. From there you can get to Positano by train and bus, or taxi - or perhaps a ferry,

How about dropping the car at Naples' airport and taking the Curreri bus to Sorrento? You need to check the Sunday bus schedule.

Thanks all. Sounds like I can drop the car off at Avis after hours and walk to the ferry That being, Saudi would pay for car until the next time they opened so Naples may be a good option depending on the cost differential.

So if we drop the car in Naples, is there anything worth seeing in the area before we drop off car? We were planning on stopping for lunch at La Sibilla in Tivoli on our way to Positano from Cortona as we've enjoyed that spot before. Since we've never been to Naples, wondered if anything there we should check out instead? Thanks

Europcar says they will let you return in Salerno Saturday afternoon "with extra charges" between 1 pm and 7 pm and in Sorrento between 1 pm and 3:30 pm.

I'm very curious what you ended up doing with the rental car. We are planning the same drive in September and curious if you dropped off in Salerno, Sorrento or Naples and how you made your way to coast then.

We ended up dropping the car near Cortona and taking the train. We then had a driver take us from Naples to Positano. While I'm not a timid driver by any means, it just seemed easier to drop the car in Tuscany and train / driver it. From what we saw of the roads, it was the right call for us not having to beat rental car timing and get from rental car to ferry etc.
