Question for VINCENT or JSMITH about Paris clubbing
Hi Guys,
Since you have provided such great information about Paris clubbing/dancing in the past, I wanted to ask you what you think is the best area to stay in for those who want to take advantage of the best nightlife.
I would like to check out places like Batofar, Le Cab and a few other places you mentioned. Is the 5th or 6th arrondissement convenient? The 2nd?
Thanks!

I'm a newbie here and, normally, would NOT reply to posters directing their questions to specific individuals (as you did in your title).
Anyway, my wife and I had visited Batofar and another place that is not in your list, Bus Palladium by the Blanche metro. Batofar's near the Bibliotheque metro and probably, at least according to our friends who lives in Paris and knows about these more that we do, the coolest club in Paris. Bus Palladium was OK, too. Not much techno stuff, and a lot of funk. disco and rock.

Dear bettyo70, thank you for asking for my advice on clubbing. Even tho my wife and I have been to Paris numerous times in the past dozen years, clubbing/dancing has not been among our activities.
45 years ago I could have told you about the Blue Note Cafe and Club St. Germain where you could have listened to great jazz by Bud Powell, Kenny Clark, Dexter Gordon, etc. Even met Quincy Jones in the Blue Note. Alas, no more.
Good luck with your quest.

Just a clarification, I'm technically newly-registered here. However, I have lurked here over the past 2-3 years whenever I need travel information and have posted under a couple of names that I have already forgotten.

StKnicks: Thanks for your response!
JSmith: In a previous posting, you had mentioned something about Paris clubs, which lead me to seek out your knowledge. (Could there be another "JSmith"?)
Happy New Year to all!

Hi betty,
May I suggest that you not choose your hotel by its proximity to one or two places, but by its ambience?
Paris has an excellent transportation system. Nothing is too far away from wherever you are.

Ira,
I was thinking maybe certain neighborhoods in Paris would have better or more public transportation hubs than others.
For example, I'm in NYC, and certain parts (Union Square, etc.) have easy access to ALL subway lines. I was thinking this might be similar in Paris. That way, we don't have to rely on too many cabs.
Do you know how late the subways in Paris run?
Also, there's something appealing about dancing all night and then being able to walk to your hotel room to fall down on your bed!

The only major metro stations, that I know of, and in addition to major railways stations, is at Chatelet/Les Halles ( a major shopping - like Times Square area). Unlike NYC (I live in NYC, too), Paris is not shaped like an oblong and is more sprawling, hence, metro do not converge as much and you will have to do a few logistical transfers to travel from one point to another.
The buses are also quite convenient in Paris and covers a lot of grounds. If you decide on the 5th/6th and your hotel is near St. Germain de Pres and/or Odeon metro stations, then you should be fine. These are nice areas and neighborhoods.

I just hated the comparison that I did between Chatelet/Les Halles and Time Square. This was strictly a Paris metro versus NYC subway system comaprison. That is, lots of convergence of lines and long walks betwen transfers within the metro station.

Hi,
You also have to remember that metro stops at about midnight. That means that you´ll have to use taxis or walk from clubs. I would suggest that you get a hotel in the bastille area. There are several metro lines from there and it´s quite centra. The area also has plenty of bars and even some clubs. There are not that many nightclubs in Paris. The french don´t really go out clubbing. They prefer cafes and bars.
Have a nice trip and if you´re in the early 20´s you should definitely check out the " Le locomotive" club in the Pigalle area. Older than 25 - not really your thing anymore, probably.

Good Morning, Gang, from NYC,
"HelsinkiFlyer" has convinced me to inquire more about the BASTILLE neighborhood. Will post a separate inquiry into lodging there, etc.
Cheers

If you have a PDA, you can download a Métro map that shows the first and last trains from every station:
<b>http://www.ratp.info/orienter/telechargement_palm_os.php</b>
There is also night bus service, although the coverage is somewhat sparse. Go to this page:
<b>http://www.ratp.info/orienter/bus.php</b>
And click the "Noctambus" icon.
