Question for Taconictraveler/Tuscany Experts
I am in the process of finalizing some day trips for ourselves and friends. When we were in Provence a few years ago we took them to St Tropez, it was a long journey for a day but they still have fond memories of the drive. Would like to do something like that for our stay at LaFoce - do you have any suggestions for road trip. They love the water but I have never rented car before in Italy, only been on the train - this gives us flexibility but may be too much. Safe and Happy travels.

You could drive about an hour to Lake Trasimeno, explore some of the lakeshore towns, ride the ferries. You'd be too far (2-3 hours each way) from either the Med or the Adriatic.
Make sure you get an International Drivers Permit before you go.

Hi Return: there is no other body of water near to La Foce except as jean mention above, which could be afun daytrip.
But we once drove from la Foce to Porto Ercole, which is on the sea, and it was a day trip, so you could do a longish day trip there. Check out that area, and you might decide to do it. We also saw Pitigliano and Sovana on the way. Iremember the day well: it was September 11, 2001.
There are so many day trips from La Foce, why not email Benedetta Isidori, the manager of La Foce, ansk her for suggestions. Then pass them by me for opinion if you wish.

Thanks to both of you. I thought I made many of the decisions and was sitting here tonight and thought about the train from Florence to Rome. I have always done my rail tickets in advance but not sure this time - we would want first class so not sure if that is easy to do at the station. You may confirm that for me too. Many thanks again I will email Benedetta in the am....

Benedetta Isidori has always been very helpful every time we have been there at La Foce, which is four times now, and I hope for more!
Never took the train in Italy except for Zurich to Milano, which we booked way ahead online. So I'm not much help there. Sorry.
