question for Provence residents

My husband and I are putting together a photobook of our trip to Provence last year. We were there end of April, first of May and took photos of glorious fields covered in yellow blooms. We want to be accurate in our journaling and have researched trying to find out what these flowers are, to no avail. The only thing that it MAY be is yellow broom bush but I don't think so. Can someone help?

I'll be interested to hear what others suggest, caroltis, but I have seen many fields of canola (or rapeseed) in France, comme ça:

Anselm, that looks exactly like what I'm talking about...many thanks! So is this where we get canola oil I suppose?

Hmmm ... I thought rapeseed and canola were exactly the same thing but Wikipedia says that canola is an improved version of rapeseed (and that it actually stands for Canadian oil, low acid). We do grow a great deal of it here in Canada.

Here's the wikipedia entry for rapeseed, with another very nice photo:

and canola:

My guess is that they now grow canola in France, rather than rapeseed, but others may know more precisely.

I was going to post rapeseed also but Anselm, when I click on the url, I don't see a photo only the announcement of xarj's blog and podcast?

cigalechanta, that is very odd. I had found that photo through Google images and it really was perfect. I just clicked on that link again and got the same message as you did, an invite to visit the blog and podcast.

Here's a different one I found on PBase. (The photographer may be startled--or flattered--to see a whole bunch of hits on his picture):
