I have my plane tickets, I even have my lodging mostly worked out so now its down to details.
What is the wine selection like in refugios and towns along the route? I havn't hiked much in Switzerland but In Italy there usually is quite a choice.

Isn't the Haute Route mostly in France? I am quite sure there will be wine, although it may be box wine where it is transported in by helicopter. In the towns, you will surely find a nice selection of wines.

My son and his friends did it on skis, not hiking, but the food and drink should be the same summer and winter. He did not mention any shortage of beverages.
In the refuges your choices may be limited to red or white. It will be better in the towns but most of them are pretty small.
no, the haute route starts in France but is mostly in Switzerland. The 10 days we are doing is all in Switzerland.
We are skipping the first few days as we did them already on the tour of Mt Blanc.
I can live with just drinking beer I suppose. RR
You should find wine in Switzerland as well. The Swiss wine is very good---mostly Fendent (white) and Dole (red). They don't export much, so it's a little-known secret.
We've stopped at a number of mountain huts for lunch, including SAC huts, and as far as I recall they all served wine. It is probably more "Swiss" than beer.
So are you starting at Champex, or elsewhere?
We will skip the first few days, we already did two of the days on a previous hike.So we will start in La Chable which is convenient as there is a train from Geneva with only one stop.
we have done hikes all over the world and are marathon runners, so although its hard and most of our peers(52 and 53 years old) are sedentary we expect to do well.
You'll do fine and have a great time.
When are you going? Have you seen the one post in the internet by the couple who hiked it in mid-July and found many areas still under snow?
late August/Sept. so it should be less by then
