Question about turning in Oyster Card
Hey guys,
I got an Oyster Card when I got to London, and I know that when I turn it in, I get back my £5 deposit...if I have any unused credit left on my card, is that returned to me as well, or do it just lose it? Thanks in advance for your help.

We tried to turn in Oyster Cards at Heathrow before flying back to Australia and one card had a fair bit still on it and they refused to refund it.
Said we had to register the card first, then I think the refund would have been sent to us. That involved a huge form to fill in and we had a plane to catch so took the Oyster Card home with us. The person at the desk told me if it had been under about 10-15 pounds they would have refunded on the spot. This was a few years ago so things may have changed. Best to run the value on your card down I guess.

For information on Oyster cards go to www.tfl.gov.org. If you have less than £10 credit you can get that refunded along with your £ 5 deposit at ticket machine.
