Question about the cliffs of Moher!

while i was walking up to the old castle at the end of the cliffs i stopped and saw a whole area that people had stacked rocks/stones big to little ALL over the area. Ive been trying to search what this was meant for. Or if its just something that one person did and others copied. Does anyone know does this have a meaning or symbolize/represent something? Thanks

One person, indeed several persons piled stones to mark sacred sites over the millennia, anything from a grave to a religious site or a spring/well. These days though it is a Habit of tourists to make their own Cairnes and the powers that be spend thousands having to get rid of them, or used to, now they just can't be bothered and the things appear everywhere. Of course where there is one within a week there are a dozen or more.

Do you mean the grotto called St Brigid's Well - it's about a mile from the Cliffs on the Liscannor side? Worth a look -
