Question about Liberation Day in the Netherlands
I am planning a trip to Amsterdam for early May. I just learned that we will be there on Liberation Day. Is this a good thing or a complication? I assume there might be more crowds because it's a holiday. I could reschedule for one week later if the holiday makes Amsterdam less accessible. I'm looking for advice.

It is a non event generally. Only civil servants have the day off so most people will be working.
There may be a bit more going on next year for the 70th anniversary, but it won't affect you.
The evening before however is remembrance day. The whole country stops for that and there is a ceremony on the Dam, involving the royal family. All towns and villages have their own ceremony, and 2 minutes silence is observed at 8pm.

No Patrick. They sound the sirens at midday on the first of every month, unless that is a Sunday. They are general alarm siren - vital for chemical spils, flooding, anything which could affect a local population. We all know that if they go off at another time there is something wrong and we need to tune into the radio or a special website to find out what.
