Question about a connection in FRA

We have booked Denver-FRA-FCO (Rome) all on Lufthansa. It appears there has been a slight schedule change and we now arrive at FRA at 11:00 on LH447 and our flight to FCO on LH 3844 departs at 12:15.

I have flown through FRA before a few times but my jet lag must have fogged my memory because I cannot remember the following:

1. Can we check our luggage straight through from Denver to Rome, or do we have to collect it in FRA and recheck it?

2. Do we have to go through customs or immigration in FRA? Or is that done in FCO?

3. Is there a way to find out in advance which terminal and gate we will arrive in and depart from?

Overall I am not terribly worried as there are a couple of other Lufthansa flights from FRA to FCO later in the afternoon, but I would like to be as prepared as possible.
Many Thanks!
Jill

I made this connection last year and recall it to be much quicker than I expected. You do go through passport control. But my notes say I made the connection in under 55 minutes both ways, even stopping in the loo and getting water/food. Check your luggage through. You should be able to if the flights are all Lufthansa or code shares and it's all on one ticket.

Thank you, amy!
The flight is all one one reservation and all flights are Lufthansa.

Yes, your luggage will be checked through to FCO, where you'll go through customs (which will take maybe 15 min).

In FRA you will only go through immigration/passport control, but you're likely going to do it twice.

Usually there's no way to verify gates, etc because it can change. Check the flight board upon arrival at FRA, then follow the signs, which are very easy to read. FRA is large and spread out, but if your DEN flight is on time, you'll have no problems.

A couple of years ago we flew Lufthansa from SFO to FRA-FCO and I was wracking my brain trying to think whether we had to collect our luggage in FRA then realized all we had was a carry on each.

Your boarding passes which I assume you will get for FCO when you leave Denver should indicate the gate, but as always they are subject to change. I remember the Lufthansa flight attendant giving the terminal and gate for connecting destinations shortly before landing at FRA.

Also, the FRA airport was very efficient at getting us through passport control, I remember taking the elevator after passport control to get to the gate, and it was all at the same terminal.

The FRA-FCO segment seemed to be mostly businessmen, so I think it is somewhat of a commuter flight. I don't think you would have any problems connecting at a later flight if you missed your booked flight.

1. You can and should check your luggage to FCO. You don't have time to retrieve and check your luggage.

2.
Customs: NO
Passport control: YES
Carry-on luggage check : YES

3. You will probably arrive in terminal 1 but never know whether it will be A or the B. It is kind of hassle to transfer between. You have to go down about 3 floors and then back up at other end. If your flight is tight, LH provides expedited connection service.

Look at:

http://www.airportcity-frankfurt.com...6.overview.htm

Passport control: At least for 1A to 1A connection, they have a SEPARATE passport and carry-on inspection stations near the middle of the terminal 1A for transit passengers. It is not easy to find even when the LH customer service points it out. You do want to use these facilities for transit passengers: the lines are likely to be much shorter than the larger general passport control and carry-on inspection stations at the exit side of the terminal.

Carry-on luggage inspection: They are very very thorough. They do insist on emptying all the pockets and give you "that" look and a lecture if you left even a chewing gum foil in your pocket.

It will be tight. I was there two weeks ago you will exit plane then need to treck through airport to passport control which means going down about 6 double flights of steps, along a hallway then up in elevator to passport control which when I was there had 3 EU resident lines open and 1 NonEU then you treck back to security and then on to your terminal.
Check your bags through.
Yes, when you check in they will give you your boarding pass for Rome and tell you the terminal.
If your plane is more than 15 min late they will assist you but up to that time its your baby and you may need to move fast.
Lines were super slow at security.
