hi folks, does anyone know the purpose behind the embarkation card?I never understood why crew of a plane/train/boat would bother to collect these cards which you could write anything you wanted on them- they were never checked. I am asking because i heard that in eastern europe they are still used. thanks

after quite a bit of searching i found it. it seems in the uk before the age of mass tourism they used to compare the departure cards against the arrival cards, any discrepancies would mean someone overstayed his visit.
