Public transportation to Churchill's CHARTWELL house in Kent?
Just wondering - have you traveled to Winston Churchill's home, Chartwell from central London? Bus, train, private tour guide? Thanks so much....

The best place to get this info is from the website. (Every Nat'l Trust property, and most others, give transport options.)

I've never taken public transport to Chartwell, but do live in the vicinity and would recommend taking the train from central London to Sevenoaks from Charing Cross, Waterloo East or London Bridge (about 20 - 30 mins journey time depending on which station you leave from) and getting the bus from there.
It would be a lot quicker to get a taxi from Sevenoaks station as Chartwell is only about 6 miles away, so probably won't break the bank, but if you're set on public transport, that would be the way to go.
Edenbridge train station is actually nearer, but due to the vagaries of the train network would take an awful lot longer to get to from London.

Janisj – you are such a reliable source for info on Britain. I did check the Chartwell site but was confused by the directions:
“Southdown PSV 236 Westerham to East Grinstead to within ½ mile. SelKent 246 from Bromley North (passing close Bromley South ); Go Coach 401 from Sevenoaks (passing close ), both Sundays and Bank Holidays only.”
Jay-G, your suggestion to take the train to Sevenoaks sounds quite doable.
Unfortunately, I won’t be going anytime soon since I will be going to Paris and Normandy in late spring. Not sure when I will get back to England but plan to visit Chartwell if I do. SWC is one of my favorite subjects. Just read FRANKLIN AND WINSTON: AN INTIMATE PORTRAIT OF AN EPIC FRIENDSHIP by Jon Meacham which describes Chartwell is a hallowed retreat for Churchill during the stress of his prime minister’s tenure and beyond.

On that link I was mainly thinking about the rail directions. The bus section you quote wouldn't be my choice. The train will be pretty straight forward.
