Public transportation from Heathrow to Luton Airports
I'd like to save money and take public transportation from Heathrow to Luton airport (saving money is the reason I'm going all the way to Luton in the first place and I don't want to use up all my savings on cabs). I've looked up the journey on the Transport for London website, www.tfl.gov.uk, and would like someone with first hand knowledge to verify the accurancy of the information. The website says that the trip should take about 1 and 1/2 hours and will require me to take the Heathrow Express to Paddington NR transfer to Paddington H&C to Farringdon and then Thameslink to Luton OR Paddington H&C to Kings Cross then walk to St. Pancras then take Midland Main Line to Luton Airport.
I have 6 hours between the time that my flight lands at Heathrow and my next flight leaves from Luton. So, time is not an issue. The website does not give prices for the National Rail portion of the journey - any general ideas on the price of this?
Am I going to hate myself for trying this??? Any thoughts??? Thanks

Wouldn't it be easier to just take the National Express coach from Heathrow to Luton? It is 16GBP one-way or 20GBP r/t, and the trip takes 1hr. That will save you lots of schlepping.

Or for about the price of the Heathrow Express you could take airport connection bus. It costs about 20BP and it will take about 1 hour 15 minutes. No transfers, no worries. From terminal to terminal.

I've never done that route, but have taken National Express from LHR-LGW. I just bought my ticket when I got there. I flew BA, and National Express gave me a slight discount (1 or 2 GBP) for that.
There is at least 1 bus/hr going your route, and since you have plenty of time to spare, I think it's save to wait till you get there to buy your ticket.

Either way. This is from their website:
at airports we do try to help as much as we can. Under normal circumstances if you are late, we will try to accommodate you on a later departure subject to seats being available. Our advice when booking is always to book on a service slightly later. Then, if your plane arrives on time or early, and you are in time to catch an earlier coach we will be happy for you to travel on an earlier departure subject, always, to seats being available.
You could see they are very flexibe with their tickets.
Have a great trip!
