Public transportation from Berlin Tegel airport to Alexanderplatz
Hi all. Know I can take a taxi but was wondering if anyone had taken a train, bus, etc to Alexanderplatz. Thanks in advance.

No rail from the airport, only bus connections to the U/S-Bahn network unless something has changed.

I have taken the bus from Tegel to Unter den Linden/Friedrichstrasse.
I can't remember if the bus goes to Alexanderplatz--which is close to Friedrichstrasse.
The bus does stop at the Haupt Bahnhof. You may be able to transfer there.
Hopefully Cowboy will chime in here.

Yes, TXL goes between Tegel and Alexanderplatz. You can get the schedule here:
http://www.bvg.de/index.php/de/3761/...xpressbus.html
Look on the right-hand side and download a PDF schedule.
Note also the great journey planner on BVG.de, which will list connections between two places you're trying to go between (the German word for airport is flughafen -- if you put in Tegel you'll be asked to choose from a pulldown).

While all relevant info has already been given, just a reminder that the last leg of the TXL route near Brandenburg Gate and along Unter den Linden boulevard is now affected by the tunnel drilling of the new subway line. Which usually slows down the TXL bus. And makes the departure schedule from Tegel Airport less reliable. But there should be a bus every 10 minutes.
You can change from the bus at Central Station to any eastbound S-Bahn train which all call at Alexanderplatz. But this makes only sense if you do not shlep around lots of luggage. Otherwise just calculate up to 45 minutes travel time on the bus from Tegel Airport to Alexanderplatz.
At Tegel Airport there are often lines at the ticket machines or staffed desk. But you can also get your (single ride or day pass) ticket from the driver. If you want a multi-day or week pass or else you need to see one of the machines or the desk, though.

Cowboy has a good point about a slowdown on Unter den Linden...
due to the building of a new
subway line, although it did not seem too bad when I was in Berlin in July.
( it also makes the lovely boulevard look a mess).

I think the TXL bus is a real bargain - our hotel was near Alexanderplatz and the bus to Tegel was only €2.20. It took just over 30 minutes as there was little traffic.
Individual tickets are €2.60 but we bought the "four trip ticket" for €8.80.
