Public transportation from Algeciras, Spain to Faro, Portugal?

I am planning a trip to Southern Spain and we will be in Algeciras and have thought about going over to Portugal. Are there buses that travel directly to Faro from Algeciras and if so, how long does this trip take? Does the bus go back to Seville and then you change to a bus to Faro? I am confused!

Looked again at our plans and we will be in La Linea at the time but it is not that far from Algeciras or Gibraltar so...

'Are there buses that travel directly to Faro from Algeciras' - no.

If you tell me this is not a day trip (journey time will be about five hours each way), I will make the effort.

Wombat, thanks for the reply. Five hours each way would not be a day trip! However, we would only spend one or two days and I'm not sure it is worth the trouble for that length of time. Am I correct in thinking that the shortest way (by public ground transportation) is to bus to Seville from La Linea, change buses to continue on to Faro? Or is there another bus change along the way? We are trying to decide what the best option is and if we should just skip Faro for another trip, another time. There are four of us and one of the party wants to pop over to Portugal.

As you can see from this - http://www.tgcomes.es/horarios_33.htm - Algeciras to Seville

A lot of years since I might have done it in reverse, Seville to Faro detail tomorrow (I have it somewhere).

Weighing the amount of time expended travelling and expenditure against a couple of days, I would be trying to convince this person otherwise, but here is the information I had at the back of mind.

http://www.algarvebus.info/001.htm#seville see under COACHES/BUSES LAGOS - ALBUFEIRA - FARO - HUELVA - SEVILLE right hand detail from Seville.

If travel beyond 30th June 2012, I think, the page has been consistently updated over the years, but you also have the bus companies for double check.

Good luck.

Wombat, thanks so much for the information. Armed with your knowledge, I have persuaded the other person to leave Portugal for another day!

YES! I have just booked a bus from Algeciras to Faro (so presumably you can do it in the other direction!) with www.movelia.es. 43.60 euros, 6h 15 length of journey
