public trans from San Gimignano to Cinque Terra?

Info please: Using public transportation what is the best way to get from San Gimignano to Cinque Terra. I understand San Gimignano is not on a train line. So do we go back to Poggibonsi and catch a train from there to Cinque Terra. So please what would be the quickest and best route to get to Cinque Terra (namely Riomaggiore). Thank you.

Poggibonsi - Empoli
Empoli - Pisa
Pisa - La Spezia
La Spezia - Riomaggiore

It might be best to take the train from Poggibonsi to Florence, where you can get direct trains to La Spezia, especially if you're not traveling very light. You would save one change of trains, and the change is easier in Florence, because all the tracks are at ground level, and there are no underpasses.

Why? The train going to Florence passes through Empoli. And the train going to La Spezia passes trough Empoli again. Why backtrack?

Sorry, I thought the direct trains from Firenze to La Spezia didn't stop in Empoli, so that it was the only way to avoid a change of train in Pisa.

In that case, it would be worth your while to get a direct train from Empoli to La Spezia, avoiding the change of train in Pisa.
