A question like this will attract more scorn and ridicule than help... because we don't know...
1. Do you mean you are just thinking about it for July 2006? or are you already in Europe, and thinking you want to make a side (day?) trip there from the Dordogne, just to use two polar opposite examples.
2. Do you seek advice on lodging, restaurants, self-catering accommodations, towns, festivals, where to get a root canal done?
3. What budget? for how many people? ever been to France before? Europe before?
Try again, with more information, and hopefully this first post of mine will fend off those who are more likely to be rude to you.
Best wishes,
Rex
Dear L,

I advise you to get a few guidebooks, see what you like about Provence, make a tentative itinerary and ask us to help you tweak it.
We don't even know why you want to go to Provence.
I see that in a previous posting, you mentioned that you will be going to a farmhouse near Apt in July. I assume you are still trying to obtain advice.
If you are planning to rent a car (which is what I would do) you will have the opportunity to drive to the other villages near Apt. One trip a day, to one or two villages, will consume several days. I would suggest you might want to visit Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, Cavaillon, Cadenet, Vaison-la-
Romaine, Orange, Avignon, Arles, St-Remy-de-Provence, among others. Of course you probably don't have time to visit this many, but these suggestions might give you an idea.
If you travel only by train, you will be somewhat more restricted in day trips, but you could still visit some villages by bus. And of course Apt is a nice town to wander in, and the Cathedral Ste-Anne is very pretty.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
