Trip Report Pros and cons regarding going to the Liore Valley In March

Jump to last reply

I had vacation time in the middle of March, and we decided to go to the Loire valley in France. We just returned. It was a lovely trip. My partner had never been to this part of France.

We flew into Paris and took a TGV into St. Pierre des Corps. We stayed overnight at the train station and rented a car the next morning from Eurocar. I must say I became a fan of the roundabouts that apparently are everywhere in France.. It was quite easy getting from the train station to Amboise, our hub.

We stayed at Manoir Les MInimes. It was a very good choice for us. We had lovely room overlooking the bridge and the castle and saw some great sunsets. It cost, off season, about $125 per night. In addition, it was walking distance to the man drag, where most of the restaurants are. The staff was also very helpful..

The advantages of going in March were

it was cheaper
there were very few people in the restaurants, hotels and the castles
we got to see the castles with the fireplaces working
because it was not crowded, everyone was nicer.
taking photos at the castles was much easier. .

the disadvantages were

it was cold (40-55 degrees)
the gardens were just beginning to bloom
