Private German Rhine Tours

Hi

I am wanting to plan a trip (2 -4 days) along the Rhine in Germany as a surprise for my partners birthday.

What is the best way to plan this - are there any good reputable companies to speak with who specialise in these trips that anybody could reccommend??

Also, I would love to know if there are any private boats that you can do on an evening where you can have meals cooked for you etc?

I think you know where I might be going with this ;-)

Any advice/help would be hugely appreciated.

Either reply here or if you can message me then that would be great.

Best Wishes

James

You may not be aware that the Rhine is a major shipping route...lots of commercial traffic. Not really a romantic setting.

As Liz indicated, the Rhein is not like taking a house boat on one of the canals is France. The prettiest part is a 45 miles stretch between Konlenz and Bingen. And then there is the Mosel River between Koblenz and Trier. You can take day trips on these two rivers, between the places mentioned. Part of the allure is the tourism fun (?) on these boats. If you don't enjoy drinking the local wines, forget it.

Then there are the river cruises on the Rhein, Main and Danube that run between Amsterdam and Budapest. These last from 7 to 14 days. River cruises are quite different from blue water cruises, but they are a good way to get an overview of the countries covered. The boats hold roughly 100 to 150 passengers. Their appeal ars the stops along the way and overnight.
