Yes I've done it - not to Molo in Naples but Rome FCO to Positano. I paid 450 euro so you should pay less.
It would be way cheaper for you to take the train to Naples - you can get fares for 29 euro if you buy them in advance.
There are many car companies in the Naples area as it's a very competitive marketplace.

Thanks Blueeyedcod
I understand it is a lot economical by train and then taxi to the ferry wharf. However we will be travelling with a young child so I thought we would cut out the whole rigmarole of changing mode of transport plus avoiding Naples Centrale altogether and also not to have to worry about pick-pockets etc.

There is really nothing to worry about. I travel to Naples with my own children and it is perfectly fine.
It is a fixed taxi fare of 11 euro from Napoli Centrale to Molo Beverello You tell the driver you want this fare *before* you get in the cab. See this link:

The driver will issue you with a receipt for 11 euro and that fare is all you pay.
If you are still worried, then I can recommend this company
www.worldtours.it
They have driven me around Naples and the Amalfi Coast and are reliable and friendly. Check their TA reviews which are very good.

I spent quite a bit of time deciding to do same. Evening arrival @FCO, traveling solo w/luggage. Having a private driver def best decision for me - pick-up right at airport, drop-off right at my hotel at Molo Beverello for next morning ferry transfer to Capri. World Tours, Tiber Limo, and http://www.guemartravel.com/ all highly recommended and very professional in corresponding. Ultimately went with Guemar Travel - 350 euro FCO to Naples.
