Hi,
A friend and I are in the very first steps of thinking about a trip to Russia. We would like any suggestions about travel from Moscow to Kiev. What's the best way to get between the two. Also, I know that the Golden Ring towns are in between, is there an easy way to stop and visit a couple of those along the way?
Thanks!

#1 Capital Express Moscow/Kievshaia - Kiev/Passenger
23:23 (11:23PM) - 08:00 (8 AM)
High-speed train Moscow-Kiev started regular traffic in August 2005.
The average speed of the train is about 140 kilometers per hour, and covers
the distance between the 2 capitals in only 9 hours. The service is run jointly
by the Russian and Ukrainian railways for maximum passenger comfort. Both 1st and 2nd
class cabins are available. 1st class consists of a cabin with a sleeping berth for 2 people.
2nd class consists of a cabin with a sleeping berth for 4 people.
2nd Class costs about 120USD p/p
1st Class costs about 240USD p/p

#41 & #5 Moscow Kievshaia Kiev passenger
I don't have any information on either of these trains
1st Class consists of a sleeping compartment with 2 beds
2nd Class consists of a sleeping compartment with 4 beds (2 bunk beds)
3rd Class is an open sleeping car without compartments, 40+ people sleeping in the same room (I
would not recommend this.)

Please remember that train travel in both Russia and Ukraine is very popular and tickets to some destinations sell out quickly.
Both Aerosvit (Aerosvit.com) and Aeroflot (Aeroflot.com) have flights from Sheremetyevo (SVO) airpot, Moscow, to Borispol (KBP), Kiev. The flights are approximately less than 2 hours.

I had to check with some friends but the Golden Ring is roughly Northeast
of Moscow. Sergiev Posad, Vladimir, Suzdal, Kostroma, Yaroslavl,
Rostov, Pereslavl Zalessky, Sergiev Posad are traditionally the Golden Ring. I believe the Moscow Iaroslavskaia station services this area.
www.expresstorussia.com can help with trains to the Golden Ring. I couldn't find any trains servicing both Kiev and the Golden Ring
And don't miss St.Petersburg out - it's much more beautiful then Moscow. There's a train connection Moscow - St.Petersburg. And You can also consider visiting Novgorod and Pskov - ancient Russian cities.
