Pre-flight seat selection on British Air

My daughter and I are flying British Air from JFK to Heathrow in two weeks - 19:30 flight, arrives 7:30. This is my first international flight. BA only allows free seat selection 24 hours prior to the flight, otherwise they charge $45 - $60/seat. Are the twin-seats (row of 2 seats instead of 3) in the back of the plane worth the extra $60/each? We definitely need to sleep on the flight - so is it worth the extra money to pre-select our seats? Thanks for your advice.
