Prague, which railway station?

Hi All!
We will be traveling by train from Berlin to Prague then Prague to Munich. Can anyone help me as it appears that there are a number of stations for Prague and we probably arrive at one and leave another...very confusing!
We also need to get into Wenceslas Square from the station.
The arrival from Berlin appears to be out of town, do we change trains?
We would like to have some idea of where to go although I'm told English is frequently spoken in the Czech Repub.
Anyone with experience of this please help!! We leave for London on Saturday.

Enter from Berlin to Prague

and Prague to Munich

and your train timings.

You will get station names.
Berlin to Prague is usually Prague - Holesovice station, somewhat out of city center location as you already know.

Prague to Munich is usually : Praha hl.n., Prague Main Railway Station, more of city center somewhat close to Wenceslas Square, National Museum side.

Your post is not clear. Do you have to get to Wenceslas Square when you arrive from Berlin ? If so, there is no train that gets you to W.Square. You would have to do the following.

Both stations have a subway station but I don't know if I want to use it if I have a lot of luggage. Then rip-off by taxi cab is well known in Prague so you better be careful there too.

There are 2 subway stations at Wenceslas Square. Museum (National Museum) and Mustek (entrance to the Old Town). The Square is actually a very long strip. Museum or Mustek, it's up to where exactly you need to go.

Wenceslas Square is NOT the best part of the city (lots of adult oriented establishments, stag partiers) so if you can, don't stay too long there. Fortunately the old town part is really close by.

I agree with everything Kappa has said, especially about the taxi drivers at the train stations.
Can you arrange your hotel or accommodation provider to arrange a pick up?
if not contact AAA cabs they have english speaking dispatchers and are very honest and reliable.
this link should give your contact details.

on no condition accept the offer of a cab from people approaching you at the train station as you WILL be ripped off.

I think a lot of the trains stop at both Holesovice and the main station which go to/from Germany. What's so confusing, most big cities have more than one train station, they are just different buildings in different places. Paris has about six of them, if not more. HOlesovice isn't outside Prague, it is still in Prague, just a bit north of the main station, but it's not that far away.

I don't think it makes that much difference if you arrive at HOlosovice or Hlavni nadrazi, as they both have metro stations, and you can get taxis at both. So your method would be the same, I suppose. Hlavni nadrazi is closer to Wenceslas Square, sure, so taxi fare would be cheaper. I can't remember what I paid last time I took a taxi from around Powder Gate to HOlosovice, maybe it would be the equivalent of around 15 euro.

Most hotels in Prague have arrangments with private drivers which you can order, at least all the hotels I've stayed at have, but they were 4*. It's a real common business in Prague, though, and I think a good idea.

Thank you
Based on all of your wonderful information we have rebooked our accommodation to stay in the old town at Arcadia Apartments and they offer a very inexpensive train station pick up, so thank you again for the help.
We have open first class train tickets on December 5th Berlin to Prague then 3 days later Prague to Munich. We don't have specific seats yet in case we wanted to change train times.
When should we organise the actual seats as we now know the trains we want to be on? Can we do that at the train stations the day or so before we catch the train? Will we get seats?
We leave Sydney tomorrow but won't be in Germany until December 2nd.
Thanks Again
Rosie

if it is the apartments on Kozna, then you have got yourself a great place.No1 appatments on the Trip advisor rating and a stones throw away from Old Town Square.
I am sure you will have a great time there.
You are just off the Royal Route which is a great thing to follow whilst in the city ,will let you see most of historic prague.

The 3-4 times I've arrived in Prague from Germany (Berlin via Dresden) it's been at the Holesovice station. Since it's at the northern terminus of the Red subway line it's actually quite easy just to go down the escalators and take the subway into town.

You state your apartment has train station pickup - that's good & I'd definitely rely on them.

I find the combination of subway and tram quite easy to get around. Prague is a very walkable city, but taking public transportation at least one way helps a lot. (on the legs). Becoming familiar with the system can make help you get around farther/faster.
